Hi! I’m Jennifer. Thanks for stopping by.
I live in Irvine, California with my husband and two kids. I am a breast cancer survivor (almost 5 years!) and although the chemo and radiation treatments and many surgeries mark some of the most difficult times in my life, I am now grateful for these experiences. They have allowed me to help other women going through the same struggles of treatment.
I love technology and am usually the first one to get the latest gadget on the market. My education passions are 21st century learning strategies and leading with a growth mindset. Every year I attend the Computer Using Educators Conference (CUE) in Palm Springs with a large group of our school’s teachers and many others from our school district. This yearly event never disappoints, providing innovative ideas and time to collaborate with other educators. Much of what I bring back to our school site was inspired by the sessions at this conference.
I have been in education for over 12 years and have loved every minute. I taught in Nevada for two years before moving back to my hometown of Irvine. I have taught 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade, as well as many combo classes, such as 1st/2nd grade and 2nd/3rd grade. My experience also includes researching intervention programs and developing an after-school reading intervention program for grades 2-6th. I have also worked extensively with our Special Education Team in constructing a clear and thorough Student Study Team Process for students that may need additional interventions or further assessment. Over seven years ago, another teacher and I started a fitness team at our school, called Mustang Milers. The program has grown to include 315 students, many parent and teacher volunteers, and has contributed greatly to our school’s culture with its emphasis on living a healthy lifestyle.
I have also worked diligently in creating a positive digital footprint for our school through the use of various social media accounts, such as Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, and YouTube (WoodburyIUSD). I feel strongly that parents and other stakeholders need to know about all the amazing things that go on in a school on a daily basis. Social Media provides an opportunity for schools to create their own positive narrative. I have presented on this topic and continue to share all that I’ve learned along the way.
Currently, I am an Assistant Principal at Woodbury Elementary in the Irvine Unified School District. My duties include teacher support, student discipline, overseeing many school programs, updating our school’s social media, and working closing with our many stakeholders. In addition to being an Assistant Principal, I teach multiple online professional development courses for K-12 teachers. This has been a lot of fun since I meet and learn from other educators from all over the world. Since I love running and physical fitness, I am also a board member on the OC Marathon Board, which is incredibly rewarding.
I look forward to hearing your comments and please do not hesitate to contact me.
